EY has today hired Niranjan Nathan as a partner in its insurance practice, to join the firm in July 2016. Niranjan will take over the leadership of EY’s UK P&C actuarial team within 12 months of joining. Niranjan joins from Swiss Re where he was a managing director and the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of their global commercial insurance division.

Niranjan’s career in the insurance industry spans almost two decades, and he has experience in both Europe and the Australian market. During his time at Swiss Re, he held a number of senior roles, including heading up the UK P&C actuarial costing team, before moving into a group strategy role, and most recently as the CRO of their commercial insurance division.

Commenting on Niranjan’s appointment, Rodney Bonnard, UK Head of Insurance at EY, said: “We are thrilled to have Niranjan join our insurance practice. His actuarial and analytical skills, and depth of experience in assessing and managing insurance-related risk will be key for our clients, especially at a time when the industry and regulators are so focused on mitigating and minimising risk. Niranjan is a key hire for EY, and demonstrates the investment and ambitions of our insurance practice.”

Niranjan Nathan adds: “I am delighted to be joining EY to head up the P&C actuarial practice. Since the crisis, insurers have been under increased pressure to demonstrate they are managing their risk and capital appropriately. In that landscape, actuarial insight is a cornerstone to an effective insurer. With Solvency II coming into force in under two months, and numerous other challenges ahead, I look forward to supporting EY’s clients as they map out and manage their future.”
